John Lennon would be celebrating his 80th birthday on October 9 and numerous musicians, celebrities, and fans have taken to social media to celebrate the occasion.

Lennon’s Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney shared a touching photo of the two sitting side-by-side in the studio sharing a smile as Paul takes notes.

“I love this picture, it reminds me of the bond between us. Happy 80th John. Love Paul,” he wrote in a tweet.

“John was a great singer. I liked all of his songs, he really wrote good songs,” Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys wrote.

“I liked all of his songs, he really wrote good songs. ‘Norwegian Wood,’ I just liked the chords, you know? And ‘In My Life,’ yeah (sings) ‘In my life, I loved you more.’ He inspired Pet Sounds. Happy 80th Birthday, John.”

Ringo Starr urged fans to “come together” in honor of his birthday. “Let’s celebrate John‘s 80th birthday with come together Friday, 9 October I still miss you man peace and love to Yoko Sean and Julian,” he wrote.

In celebration of Lennon’s 80th birthday, Gathr Films will be releasing its feature film documentary Meeting the Beatles in India chronicling the group’s iconic trip to Northern India. In 1968, The Beatles traveled to Rishikesh to study transcendental meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

The life-changing trip marked the band’s most productive period of songwriting as it spawned much of the material on The Beatles (also known as “The White Album”), as well as songs appearing on Abbey Road and other solo ventures.

Filmmaker Paul Saltzman was with The Beatles in India as the film retraces his journey 50 years later. Meeting the Beatles in India features never-before-seen videos and photos from their time in India making the film a must-watch for any Beatles fan.
